Manam Restaurant – An Honest Review

Have you ever dined at Manam Restaurant? Manam serves comfort Filipino food and since we have a ‘balikbayan with us who craves for good Filipino food, we decided to have our lunch there.

Manam serves Filipino comfort fare in classics and twists, and to quote a line from their website, they serve in “another way to welcome your Moment faves into your home.”

We dined in Manam, SM City Bacoor Branch and here’s a detailed honest review of every food we ordered and our whole dining experience.

It was lunch time so of course we ordered how a typical Filipino eats lunch, Viands and Rice.

We order medium size plain white rice that was said to be good for 3-4. True enough, we eventually needed to order another one (hahaha)

Our first choice of dish was their Kare-Kare with Oxtail

Kare-Kare with Oxtail

Oxtail, Tripe, and Vegetables in Peanut Stew, Served with House-made Bagoong on the Side

Small: Good for 1 pax – ₱355.35

Medium: Good for 2-3 pax – ₱643.75

Large: Good for 4-5 pax – ₱1,148.45

HONEST REVIEW:

This dish is highly recommended, I have to say, one of the best Kare-Kare we ever had in a restaurant. The sauce itself is good enough to be eaten with rice. (As we usually say it in Filipino, Sabaw pa lang, ulam na!). It was approved by my grandma and my daughter, and we all actually liked it.

However, there’s only 1 not-so-good comment we have to say about it, the oxtail is quite hard. Yes! Hard to cut, hard to chew, I mean really hard..matigas. Ganon. 😉 (Probably needs a little more time boiling to make it softer). With this factor to be considered, this dish is a 9 out of 10 rating.

Next dish, SISIG. Manam’s Sisig was said to be named as “The No. 1 Sisig in Manila” for two consecutive years by Spot.ph.

House Crispy Sisig

Pork Jowl and Cheek, Chopped and Served on a Sizzling Plate

Small: Good for 1 pax – ₱185.40

Medium: Good for 2-3 pax – ₱334.75

Large: Good for 4-5 pax – ₱566.50

HONEST REVIEW

If you want a sisig that is crunchy and tasty, you’ll definitely love this one! It’s cooked crunchy like you are eating chicharon bits and really tasty too (not the herbs and spices-kind of tasty, I mean how a good sisig should really taste!)

It’s good as pair with your white rice, and if you are an alcohol enthusiast like me, bring home some on your scheduled booze night and it’ll be a perfect ‘pulutan’ too! Perfect 10 out of 10 rating for me for this dish. Worth your bucks!

As for our seafood, we ordered their Inihaw na Pusit.

Inihaw Na Pusit

Small: ₱283.25

Medium: ₱494.40

Large: ₱798.25

HONEST REVIEW

Not a bad choice if you want to have a seafood or if you really like to have squid with your meal. It’s cooked just right and perhaps just the way you will be expecting your stuffed squid order to be cooked. No negative comment whatsoever for this one, just rating it 9 out of 10 because nothing also extra special with it.

As for appetizer, we ordered Mangga’t Bagoong.

Mangga’t Bagoong

Green Mangoes, Sutéed Shrimp Paste

Small: Good for 1 pax – ₱139.05

Medium: Good for 2-3 pax – ₱236.90

Large: Good for 4-5 pax – ₱417.15

HONEST REVIEW

This one surprised me a bit when served to our table. Just 2 slices of green mangoes served in a plate with a small bowl where the ‘bagoong’ is. No fancy plating, they are just laid there and served. I really thought it will be green mangoes cut into cubes or something, but the lack of effort in at least having a decent plating considering it’s price is quite disappointing.

The green mango is good though, if you’re into a green mango which will totally distort your face because of its sourness, you’ll definitely like this. The ‘Bagoong’ is also good-tasting and tastes good with the green mango. But for the lack of effort in presentation, it’s a 5 out of 10 for me. (And will not order this one again in case we’ll ever eat in Manam)

Last, but totally not the least, Audrey order their Iced Tea.

Iced Tea

Classic – ₱75.00

Free-Flowing- ₱110.00 (that’s their version of bottomless)

Audrey actually liked their Ice Tea, and when a dish or a drink was able to pass Audrey’s standard of taste, it really must be good 🙂

(It’s just quite funny that the number of refills done to your free-flowing Iced Tea order will also be listed in your receipt)

Their service is also commendable btw. We did not have to wait that long before our orders were served, and they were hot and freshly cooked. We were also assisted right away whenever we needed something, and the staff were all nice and pleasant 🙂

OVERALL it was a good dining experience and we enjoyed the food that we ordered. Chances are we will dine at Manam again and try their other dishes.

(Have I mentioned that their plates were really big, as if you are eating in a serving dish. hehehe)
